Thank you for visiting my site. I hope you enjoy my work. I have always loved to draw. In elementary school I was asked by other students to help them with their drawings or draw something for them. I did my first commissioned work when I was 18. A teacher asked me to draw her 4 cartoon scenes of a boy and girl with an old horse. These were pen & ink drawings with watercolor overlay. This teacher was boarding her horse at the same stable where we had horses. My next commissions came from fellow boarder's. These horse portraits were seen by other people, they asked me to do their pet's portraits. Some clients had me do their entire family of pets. You can see many of these portraits in the horse and pet section. I started over 30 years ago and did take photos to start a portfolio, the quality of the photos isn't as good as we can do today. Some of the photos have been lost or destroyed over the years. Many images on this website may not be very clear or have been taken from very small photos and enlarged. I went to Montgomery County Community College in Pennsylvania from 1978-1979. I did not want to take their art program so I designed my own. I took all the l and II courses in drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, and art history. I was taking double the art courses then the art major students. I moved to Dingman's Ferry, Pa. in 1980 and decided to go back to college and take more studio courses at East Stroudsburg State College. At this time I was doing a few art shows. I got married and started a family. I was always drawing and painting when I had the time. A few years later my family moved to a 43 acre farm in Harford, Pennsylvania.
Harford is in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania and this was one of the factors leading to a new line of artwork. With my daughters as the main subjects, The Endless Mountain Girls were born.
One Halloween I made prairie girl costumes for the girls. We had a large garden that was over an acre. One of the vegetables we grew were pumpkins. All the pumpkins were put on a flat bed wagon and I took a picture of the girls in their costumes. This was the inspiration for the first drawing. You can find this series in my stationary section and soon to come illustrated e-book. Harford has a large country fair every year in August. Our second year there, I decided to set up a booth with my artwork (and the extra vegetables from our garden). We were raising Scotch Highland Cattle, pigs, chickens, goats, and had horses. I designed many of my postcards, some of my children's prints and country scenes from the animals and buildings where we lived. I started painting on slate, wood and doing hand painted clothing.
In 1993 we moved to Chesapeake City, Maryland. The town is a small tourist town on the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. Many of the homes and buildings date bake to the 1800's.
I always wanted to show dogs and at this time I had the opportunity to start a kennel, boarding, and breeding business. I bred, raised and showed Border Terriers under the name Duin Kennel. You can see more pictures and information about the kennel I had at www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Park/2633
I volunteered for the Cecil County SPCA, Foxcatcher Event, and Fairhill International. This gave me the ability to get many more commissions. I was asked by Cecil County Community College to design, write and teach a Basic Dog and Cat Care course. With the success of that course, the college asked to do the same with a grooming course. I was even lucky enough to work on the movie "Beloved" starring Oprah Winfrey, Danny Glover, Tandy Newton and Jason Robards. One of the animal wranglers that worked for Birds and Animals Unlimited called me to see if I carried butterfly nets in my store. I told her that I didn't but could find some. She then asked if I could find other items they needed on the set. With my connections I found them chickens to rent, turkeys, mice, a puppy, and other items for the movie. The company rented my shop for the day to work on dogs in the movie. They even asked me to work on the set with the animals. I was known as the "Chicken Lady" because my main job was loading and unloading chickens and turkeys in cages then putting them on a wagon. I had to make sure they were fed and watered all day. I rode horses, helped with the carriage horses, walked dogs, worked with butterflies and did any other job they needed that had to do with the animals. I did get to talk to Oprah briefly on a few occasions. The pictures below are of the main set and "Fish Camp" where we had the animals we worked with stationed. I wasn't able to take pictures of the set with the actors.
In the last few years I have not been able to work on my art as much as I would have liked. I was going through a difficult divorce between 2004-2005 that took up a large portion of my time. I now have the opportunity to start a new studio in my new home. I have started a new line of fantasy art and an e-book.
